Creich Parish

Creich Parish extends to within half a mile of the Firth of Tay, and contains the villages of Luthrie and Brunton.

It is bounded NW by Flisk, NE by Balmerino, E by Kilmany and Moonzie, S by Monimail, SW by Dunbog, and W by the easternmost section of Abdie.

Creich Parish Church lies on the east side of Luthriebank Road between Luthrie and Brunton. It is a Gothic style church, built in 1830-1832 to a design by the architect William Stirling, as a Church of Scotland church (to replace the old, now ruined, Creich Parish Church).

Creich

Creich is a hamlet to the north east of Brunton beside Creich Castle. A ruined tower house, Creich Castle was once the ancient residence of the Bethunes (the name is also spelt Bethune, Betune, and Beaton).

Mary Beaton of Creich was one of the 'four Marys' who attended Mary Queen of Scots. Some of the stone from the castle was apparently used to build parts of Creich Farm which now surrounds the castle.

There’s been a castle on this site since at least the 13th century, however the present building is thought to date to the first half of the 16th century, as it is mentioned in a charter of 1553.
